It was on Tuesday morning that the planes crashed and the towers
crumbled. Before the end of the day, 87% of AOL poll respondents predicted
war. Before the end of the week, 3,000 miles west, flags sprang up
everywhere. People were on the streets, drinking beer, waving flags and flying
balloons, shouting at passing cars. I saw only one flag raised at half-mast for mourning. |
